BYK USA, a specialty chemical company, is set to showcase their products and services at the upcoming Compounding World Expo.

With a strong reputation in the paints, coatings, and plastics sectors, BYK is at the forefront of developing functional additives that enhance product performance and sustainability. Here’s a closer look at their exciting initiatives and future goals.

Can you provide a brief overview of your company and the products/ services you'll be showcasing at the event?

BYK is a $3 billion specialty chemical company across diverse end uses. About 40% of our business is in paints and coatings where BYK has a global reputation as a quality supplier of functional additives such as wetting and dispersion and rheology modification.

Around 30% of our business is in plastics applications where BYK has grown rapidly over the past few years. Our unique product portfolio consists of a diverse range of functional additives for coupling and compatibilizing and wetting and dispersion as well as clay-based additives for barrier and reinforcing, flame retardant synergists, and our new PFAS-free PPAs. Many of our products are also available as a traditional masterbatch or cost effective compact.

What recent trends or developments in the industry are you most excited about, and how do your products/ services align with them?

The increased use of recycled content is an exciting topic for us at BYK. We’ve developed and are continuing to develop additives to help improve the quality of recyclates streams and make them easier to process.

Additionally, the ever-increasing legislation surrounding the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl products opens opportunities for us. While we’re not excited about the legislation itself, we’re enthusiastic about the two PFAS-free polymer processing aids that we’ve recently launched as well as new additives in the pipeline.

Could you share a success story or case study demonstrating how your products/ services have benefited a customer?

Our PFAS-free products have already been successfully trialed by customers. With initial success in the field of artificial turf fiber, customers have seen reduction in die build up comparable to traditional PFAS-containing PPAs as well as improvements in throughput.

What are your company's goals for the future, and how do you see yourselves contributing to the evolving industry landscape?

One of our major focuses is upcycling and enhancing the processing and long-term stability of plastics to make new, high-quality applications possible. Our goal is to continue to add value throughout the recycling value chain with new and innovative additives. Our PFAS-free PPA products are already demonstrating their effectiveness as replacements for traditional products in many applications.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s show?

We’re looking forward to the repeated success of past years’ shows. AMI Compounding World is a great way to introduce new products and solutions to the industry while meeting new and old customers.
