Speaker Interview: Onur Ege Onar, Mine Colours

Please share some background on yourself and your company

My journey in the color concentrate industry began at a very young age. Mine Colours was founded by my father when I was just 10, and I eagerly embraced every opportunity to join him at work. These early experiences gave me invaluable insight into the business, allowing me to learn its intricacies firsthand. In many ways, I grew up alongside Mine Colours, watching it evolve from a modest startup into the successful company it is today.

Even after 20 years, we've stayed true to our humble beginnings and customer-driven approach. As a family-run business, we continue to take great pride in providing high-quality colorants and additives for a wide range of applications and industries.

What have been your biggest achievements at Mine Colours so far this year?

Expanding into a new market always comes with its own set of challenges, and this year has been a pivotal one for us at Mine Colours. Our focus has been on thoroughly exploring the North American market - analyzing demand, supply chains, and customer needs. We've worked hard to position Mine Colours effectively in this region.

To support this effort, we have undertaken a series of rebranding and marketing initiatives. Gathering feedback throughout the process allowed us to continuously refine our approach. While some achievements can’t easily be measured, the insights we've gained from our initial market research will be invaluable as we continue to grow and establish ourselves in North America.

How do you work towards achieving greater sustainability?

Sustainability is a core value at Mine Colours. As a European-based company, we're well-positioned to stay at the forefront of environmentally conscious practices, especially given the increasingly stringent regulations around plastics.

We offer a range of more sustainable products at different price points, giving our customers the option to incorporate Post-Consumer Resin into their colorants. While using recycled resin presents unique challenges - especially in color matching due to the variability of the material - we are committed to overcoming these hurdles. We view it as our environmental responsibility to reduce plastic waste and contribute to a greener future.

Who are you looking forward to meeting at the expo?

We’re really excited for this year’s Compounding World Expo, especially after the great connections we made at last year’s event. Personally, I’m eager to engage with both the speakers and exhibitors, as their insights and innovations are always inspiring.

One of the best aspects of networking at events like this is the unpredictability - you never know who you’ll meet or what new opportunities might arise. These unexpected encounters often lead to fruitful collaborations that can benefit both companies in ways you might not have imagined.
