Exhibitor Interview: MPB by NOVERIN
Next up in our exhibitor interview series is Mauricio Fernandes, President of NOVERIN®.
NOVERIN® is a distribution and representation company that represents a number of global brands, including their main partner MPB (Industrie Polieco-MPB) from Italy. They exclusively represent MPB at the show. In addition, NOVERIN® serves as the exclusive channel for MPB in North America and Brazil. The company supplies various segments of the industry and is particularly dedicated to the multi-layer barrier packaging industry at the show.
What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?
MPB is specialized in functionalized polyolefins (tie-layers in this case) modified with maleic anhydride and, different from our competition, this is the core of our business which highlights our commitment to this segment of the industry. We also have one of the purest products in the market, backed by a comprehensive global regulatory certifications.
Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?
We are focusing on improving the performance of our products on the most challenging applications, specially those with bi-oriented films and “deep-freezing” storage. We are also heavily committed to supplying the agri-business, more specifically multilayer structures for silage and crop protection. Furthermore, we have a full time experienced R&D and marketing team in Italy dedicated to this portfolio.
What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today, and how can this be overcome?
The biggest challenge is global instability, not only geo-politically but also freight, inflation and most recently the misinformation about plastics in general, specially when it comes to multi-layer packaging and food protection. A multilayer barrier packaging is the evolution of what came before it (i.e. monolayer or other materials) and is aimed to help to reduce waste and increase shelf life of food, pharma and chemical products.
How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?
The multi-layer packaging will continue to evolve as companies learn how to use and recycle them. Not using barrier packaging is not a sustainable option.
The combination of mechanical and chemical recycling in combination to organized collection and sorting is the key to success when it comes to sustainability. Down gauging is also important, but most of the packaging are already on the limit of its optimum performance when it comes to mechanical, thermal and barrier protection.
What are you most looking forward to at this year’s show?
Promote our international brands called COESIVE® and PROESIVE® form MPB to local and international converters and brand-owners and become a stronger player in the Americas.
Attract leads and have a chance to discuss all the above and much more. I am a big fan of trade shows and believe in the power of a face-to-face interaction.
