Exhibitor Interview: CPM

In this interview, we got the opportunity to talk to Sean Doran, Vice President Engineered Materials at CPM.

CPM provides innovative development and manufacturing of co-rotating and ring extruder systems through the integration of production, assembly, service and laboratory research. With a family of brands — including Century Extrusion, Extricom Extrusion and Ruiya Extrusion — and research facilities across the world, CPM is able to offer sustainable turnkey solutions globally.

From complete to modular compounding systems, CPM has the capability to satisfy customer requirements ranging from basic to the most advanced system specifications and construction. CPM also offers unrivalled after market services, ranging from audits to make sure your machines are in ideal condition to service and parts for many competitors’ extruder brands.

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

CPM is solutions-focused and offers expertise and a partnership in every step of the journey. Whether it be designing and constructing one of our extrusion machines or upgrading and fine-tuning a competitor’s piece of equipment, CPM has an answer.

In addition, CPM’s innovation center allows our customers to develop a wide range of products, recipes, processes and utilization improvements. This customer partnership is what drives us.

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

Development is continuously ongoing, especially in sustainability and recycling. We’re also continuing to optimize and improve our RingExtruder. We have a newer feed barrel design, a new degassing port and better wear protection as standard.  Furthermore, we’re also working extensively with our partners in the rPET and tire sealant segments. Our Industry 4.0 initiative is taking shape as we work hard on process automation, controlled process loops and automatic process optimization.

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today, and how can this be overcome?

For one, the industry needs to continue improving on its impact on the environment. Building a better world is at the forefront of our ideology, and we are a leader in that regard. It comes in different ways as well. Enabling the creation of eco-friendly building materials, bio-plastics and synthetic rubber just to name a few examples.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

We believe the market is doing well and will continue to do so. We see some very interesting applications and opportunities for our RingExtruder, especially in the recycling of PET.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s show?

We are certainly looking forward to meeting and spending time with our customers and potential customers. We take these relationships very seriously and see them truly as partners. The AMI Compounding World Expo allows us a chance to share our latest developments and provide an in-depth look at the solutions we provide that separate us from the competition.
