Speaker interview: Dr. Hyunseog Kim, Shamrock Technologies

In this speaker interview, we spoke to Dr. Hyunseog Kim, R&D Manager at Shamrock Technologies.

Dr. Kim is in the R&D group as research engineer – Thermoplastics specialist, and does technical support for thermoplastics customer applications. He is also responsible for developing new products.

What are the biggest challenges facing the market today and how can this be overcome?

Our biggest challenge in the market today involves environmental concerns in plastic products in general, and challenging new global regulatory requirements. We prepared heavily over the last few years, investing in research, testing, and new production methods to meet current regulations and prepare for future changes while supplying our products globally.

In your opinion, what do you consider to be the greatest development in your industry in the last decade?

Shamrock Technologies is a leader in the recycling of PTFE micropowder additives, with a dedicated R&D teams to produce performance enhancing additives comparable to Prime PTFE or non-recycled PTFE. Our products meet global regulatory requirements, and promote a circular economy with the reduced CO2 emissions as compared to Prime PTFE.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

We foresee the sector moving towards a more sustainable future. Shamrock will continue to improve the performance of our products for specific applications with environmental benefits. We are working on new products using bio-based and natural sources.

You will be speaking at AMI’s plastics industry expos in Cleveland in November, could you give us a preview on what you will be talking about?

The presentation will review regulatory changes pertaining to PTFE micropowders and the Development of EU Regulatory Compliant (RC) PTFE micropowders and assessing their tribological performance in engineering plastics.

We will share performance test results include recycled products for CO2 emission reduction benefit with global regulation.

Dr. Kim will be leading the presentation 'Developing EU Regulatory Compliant (RC) PTFE micropowders and assessing their tribological performance in engineering plastics' at the Compounding World Expo North America conference.
