Exhibitor interview: trinamiX
In this exhibitor interview, we spoke to Adrian Vogel, Sales Manager and Business Development Spectroscopy Solutions at trinamiX.
trinamiX drives innovative technologies that are enhancing security and decision making across different industries. Last year, it launched a handheld NIR spectroscopy solution that enables customers to sort different plastics on the spot. This way recycling staff, for example, can easily identify a broad range of plastics by using our handy measuring device in combination with an app on their smartphone.
What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?
trinamiX sits at an interesting intersection of innovation and experience. Founded in 2015 as a subsidiary of BASF SE, we have a unique access to the expertise of our mother company. At the same time, we’re a fast-paced company that breathes innovation. Take for example our solution for plastic sorting, where we introduced a cloud-based approach that enables us to flexibly adapt to our customer’s challenges. This helps us to continuously advance our solution and expand its applications – without the need to replace our user’s hardware!
Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?
We’re currently working on further miniaturizing our technology that is used in our handheld NIR scanner for integration in smartphones. Once developed, our technology will open up entirely new possibilities for B2B customers and end consumers alike. While potential applications are broad, I do see exciting solutions in the field of recycling in the long run.
What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today and how can this be overcome?
We see the increasing need for more insights about plastic waste. Receiving information about the type of the plastic is just the beginning, whereas identifying and quantifying mixes of plastics and additives is the challenge that lies ahead of us. We’re already tackling these issues by working on providing solutions that will help the industry meet their customers’ needs.
How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?
We see a tremendous growth for the recycling industry as consumers all over the world are becoming aware of the chances and challenges that lie in plastic as material. Brands will try to follow that trend and produce more products that are designed to
be circular. On top of that, they will also be asking for raw material coming out of the recycling loop.
What are you most looking forward to at this years’ show?
Following countless Webex and Teams “marathons” over the past months, I am really looking forward to finally meeting industry professionals in person again – nothing beats face-to-face meetings. And one thing is certain: Live demos of our solution are much more exciting in real life than via webcam. You don’t believe me? Visit us at our booth in hall 3 to find out!
trinamiX will be exhibiting at the Plastics Recycling World Expo Europe.
