In the run-up to AMI's plastic industry expos in Europe we will be conducting a series of interviews with our exhibitors. In the first one, we spoke to Frank Asmuss and Reinhild Bolwerk from Nordson Polymer Processing Systems.

Nordson’s Polymer Processing Systems’ team leverages more than 200 years of collective corporate experience in the plastics industry to produce a full range of precision melt stream products — from melt filtration systems, pumps, and valves for extrusion — to the dies used to create film, sheet, coatings, and pelletizing systems to meet the constantly evolving needs of the polymer industry.

Nordson uniquely understands all the components in the melt stream. They draw on this knowledge to help customers by recommending ways to optimize their overall melt stream process, increase productivity, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

Nordson understands the importance to balance all components within a melt stream. Therefore, the individual competences of each sector, melt filtration, pumps, valves, dies and pelletizing systems, have been integrated better than in any other company. Leading to a best-in-class competence with top references for all possible combinations of Nordson equipment.

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

We are working continuously on solutions for our customers through greater efficiency of equipment. One of our main focuses is new recycling technology including new developments in our R-360, WRP 1000 and BlueFlow gear pumps.

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today and how can this be overcome?

One of the biggest challenges to the industry is the need for a new level of connectivity through Covid-19. Speed of decisions, related to postponed projects during Covid-19 (short-lived environment in our industry) needs to be improved. 

The continuous demand for increased productivity / profitability for our customers in recycling applications is also a challenge. One that we as a company are well suited to meet. 

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

Within the next 5-10 years we believe the plastics industry will see a greater move to recycling. This will result in larger lines with increased, higher output capacity requirements. Despite the continued globalisation, there will still be a certain  importance of local supply chains. 

What are you most looking forward to at this years’ show?

We are looking forward to meeting new people at a live event again.
