Exhibitor interview: Nordson

Our next exhibitor in the interview series is Xiaoshan Lütkenhaus, Top Customer Sales, and Frank Weber, Regional Sales Manager, from Nordson. They will be exhibiting at Plastic Recycling World Expo.

Nordson BKG manufacture innovative melt delivery and underwater pelletising systems. Our product portfolio ranges from polymer valves and gear pumps to various screen changers and pelletisers, as well as pyrolysis cleaning ovens.

They provide solutions for plastics recycling, polymerisation, direct extrusion, and compounding applications.

Their latest innovation, the BKG® HiCon™ K-SWE-HD/RS, is the perfect filter to conquer the challenge of processing recyclates in blown film applications. Their proven back flush technology handles high contamination levels easily and will enable producers to comply with regional recycling laws.

The pressure-controlled venting start and the automated back flushing provide the highest pressure consistency in a high-pressure environment, ensuring film quality at the highest level.

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

We do not want to compare ourselves so much with the competition. Rather, we are focusing on drawing the right conclusions in response to today's challenges and developing customer value-oriented solutions that the market demands.

We have aligned our focus on market segments such as recycling. With new developments and innovations, such as the recycling filter for blown film lines, we want to continue to grow sustainably and profitably in the recycling segment.

We have global manufacturing capacities with a high level of vertical integration.

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

Plastic needs to be more sustainable. The overall goal is to reduce the amount of virgin plastics and push recycling.

Our latest innovation, the BKG® HiCon™ K-SWE-HD/RS, is the perfect filter to conquer this challenge. Our proven back flush technology handles high contamination levels easily and will enable producers to comply with regional recycling laws.

Its small footprint and vertical installation perfectly fit into blown film lines, and its overall design allows easy cleaning and maintenance.

The pressure-controlled venting start and the automated back flushing provide the highest pressure consistency in a high-pressure environment, ensuring film quality at the highest level.

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today, and how can this be overcome?

Regarding Europe, the energy crisis is one of the industry’s biggest challenges today. This has led to extremely high operating costs and jeopardised the competitiveness of European manufacturers in the global market.

In addition, material bottlenecks, delivery delays, and climate policy requirements pose further major challenges to the industry.

The European plastics industry must deal with various legislation about plastic waste. Some countries are also introducing local legislation (e.g., Spain and France), which means that the conditions of competition are not as uniform as they should be.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

The circular economy and the associated use of recycled plastic will be the defining topic of the future. We, therefore, believe that the focus will be on the recyclability of products. In this context, it will also be necessary to specify the quality of the recycling material more precisely. Both the chemical and the mechanical recycling of plastics will find their application here.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s show?

We look forward to personal networking and meeting with new and existing customers. We also hope for some interesting discussions on new projects.
