Exhibitor interview: Nexam Chemical

For the next interview, we have Henrik Bernquist, Business development manager of Nexam Chemical.

Nexam Chemical solves recycled polymer processing/property challenges with easy-to-use reactive masterbatches and chemical additives for r-PET, r-PE, r-PP, and r-PA. They serve the entire polymer value chain from the polymer producer, to the converter, to the recycler.

What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

Nexam Chemical has many different solutions for the major recycle streams. We support our customers with secure manufacturing assets and a very strong R&D team.

Are there any new technology developments that your company is working on at the moment?

Reducing the melt flow rate of both recycled polyethylene and recycled polypropylene are two of our latest innovations.

What are the biggest challenges facing the industry today and how can this be overcome?

Improving capacity for the collection of plastics, sorting and cleaning. Product and packaging designs must also improve, to use more mono materials or those that behaves as mono materials to facilitate recycling. Many waste streams are complicated mixtures of different plastics, making them difficult to recycle and use properly. Information on the value of recycled plastics needs to be promoted worldwide for more rapid adoption and acceptance.

How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?

Plastic is a fantastic and versatile material, but we need to move away from single-use plastics and appreciate that all polymeric materials need to deliver value after being used. For example, products with a shorter life cycle should contain more recycled content.  Products with a long-life expectancy and higher performance requirements present a greater challenge, but can also benefit from recycled content whenever possible.  Once we understand the true value of recycled materials, there will be a stronger demand for change by all stakeholders.

What are you most looking forward to at this years’ show?

To meet peers, network, to learn and understand more about current market needs, and where Nexam Chemical can continue to provide solutions.

Nexam Chemical will be exhibiting at the Plastic Recycling World Expo 2022.
